Trade Review: Delmon Young to Detroit for Cole Nelson
08/16/2011
The Twins traded OF Delmon Young within the division to the rival Detroit Tigers for minor league pitcher Cole Nelson and a player to be named later.
Cole Nelson (to Minnesota Twins): The 10th round pick by the Tigers in 2010 has spent two seasons split between Rookie and A+ ball, including all of this season with the Lakeland Flying Tigers (High A). The 6’ 7” 22-year-old has spent time both in the rotation and in the bullpen, posting a 4.87 ERA in 105.1 IP with 87/50 K/BB over 17 starts in 26 appearances this season. The tall LHP projects more as a reliever, with a low-to-mid 90s fastball and currently mediocre secondary pitches. He has seen better results since an early July move to the pen (2.50 ERA, 18 IP, 17 H, 4 BB, 19 K).
[...] RHP Lester Oliveros is headed to Minnesota to complete the Delmon Young trade to Detroit. The Tigers get Young, while the Twins receive two minor league relievers: Cole Nelson and now Oliveros. You can read about Nelson here. [...]
