When you look at the 2012 class, the high school side is clearly looking like it has more top tier talent to offer. It’s not to say that the college ranks are particularly bad, as they do have depth, it’s that this college group lacks the same kind of high-ceiling potential seen in the prep side. Pitching is looking like the college class’ strong suit, but there are a handful of position players that have shown some pretty big tools the past two years. I’ll be looking to update this at least two or three times before spring action starts, and then fairly regularly once the season gets going. The rest of the Top 120 starts after the break.

Great work as usual. Zimmer at 7 sticks out a bit, but I can’t say it is wrong as I really haven’t seen much of him. Guess I will have to see what I can find. I’m a big fan of Christian Walker, so he’d be higher for me.
Florida puts 6 in the top 69. I like that! Johnson and Zunino look to be locks as first-rounders next year!
Matt- Thanks! Will be tinkering with the list a lot. I like Zimmer’s delivery/stuff a ton, did well in the Cape this past summer. Impressed that Christian Walker was able to play with a broken hamate bone.
Albert- Very interested to see what Johnson does, and if he gets any at-bats to show off any more hitting potential. I know many favor him as a pitcher.
#110 – Shane Hoelscher (Rice) is only a sophomore, though I admit I haven’t looked at his birthday to see when he is draft-eligible. Another Rice guy you should consider listing is OF Jeremy Rathjen. Through last year’s fall and spring season he took major steps forward in his plate discipline. Then he started the season strong and was expected to protect Anthony Rendon in the lineup, before blowing out his knee early in the year. Fully healthy, has power, decent speed and arm.
Hoelscher may not be eligible as I first thought. Double-checking one last time though. Rathjen will definitely be on the future list, forgot the Yanks couldn’t sign him. Has a nice power/speed combo. He played real well in the Cal Collegiate League summer before last.
You’re missing a LHP out of the state of Louisiana. Forget about Top 120 in college, he’s Top 120 in the draft. I’ll let you figure it out for yourself.
Any info on Eric Garcia SS from Mizzou who played SS for Falmouth at the Cape. Same team as Ross Heffley who was the 2nd baseman.
He will definitely be on the updated list. Sounds like he’ll be doing his fair share of pitching, even though he had a very nice run in the Cape this summer.
Brenden Kalfus, a 5 tool player from SMC ( teammate with Martin Acosta and Patrick Wisdom) is also a top prospect. At 6’1″ and 194, the switch-hitting junior runs a 4.3 40, averages 93mph throws from the outfield, is among the leagues top hitters in multiple categories.
Kalfus, also ranked among the top 15 position players this summer on the team ranked #1 in the Country (Bethesda Big-Train) for summer ball according to Perfect Game. Kalfus also been on Nationally syndicated sports talk show’s with over 41,000 views/inquiries on his autograph baseball card, according to SportsCollector.net. His name is known among scouts and is a fan favorite wherever he plays!
Kalfus has over 55,000 views/requests for his Autograph baseball card following his college freshman season. This player fills the stands where he plays. The team that selects him first this June will be getting a franchise player!
