2013 Draft: College Pitching Recap: Feb. 22-24

Many of the best 2013 Draft prospects rebounded this week, and many of the helium guys continue to pitch well.

Potential First-Rounders:

  • Sean Manaea, Indiana State: A very solid 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K (64 of 97 P for strikes) line against College of Charleston. He’ll be fine.
  • Ryne Stanek, Arkansas: Struggled for consistency against Evansville - 3 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (47 of 76 P for strikes)
  • Mark Appel, Stanford: Against Fresno State, the righty did well in a rebound start - 9 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K, 7 FO, 9 GB
  • Dillon Overton, Oklahoma: The Big 10′s Hawkeyes didn’t prove to be much of challenge - 8 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K, 6 FO, 8 GB
  • Kevin Ziomek, Vanderbilt: Big K and GB totals against Monmouth – 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K, 2 FO, 6 GB
  • Austin Kubitza, Rice: Another stellar start, this time against Hawaii - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 13 K, 1 FO, 4 GB. Only 2 FO so far this year in 13 IP.
  • Marco Gonzales, Gonzaga: A nice rebound, and impressive K+GB rate facing UNLV – 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 2 FO, 9 GB
  • Bobby Wahl, Ole Miss: His control was incredibly spotty against Rhode Island: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 6 BB, 4 K, 4 FO, 5 GB
  • Scott Frazier, Pepperdine: Strong start opposite Texas A&M’s Kyle Martin: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 4 FO, 6 GB
  • Jonathon Crawford, Florida: Inconsistent, but hitless on Friday – 5.1 IP, 0 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 6 FO,6 GO
  • Trevor Williams, Arizona State: Strong start against Tennessee – 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 bb, 8 K, 6 FO, 6 GB
  • Kent Emanuel, North Carolina: Solid outing against Stony Brook – 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K (70 of 99 P for strikes)
  • Trey Masek, Texas Tech: He was excellent in extras against UConn: 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 8 FO, 10 GB
  • Tyler Skulina, Kent State: Stock on the way up against San Diego - 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K
  • Michael Wagner, San Diego: Decent start against MAC opponent – 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K
  • Nick Petree, Missouri State: Inconsistent command, but good peripherals against Southern Miss - 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 6 FO, 8 GB
  • Ryan Eades, LSU: Decent peripherals against Southeastern Louisiana: 6 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 6 FO, 6 GB
  • Jason Hursh, Oklahoma State: Properly dominated New Jersey Tech – 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 3 FO, 12 GB
  • Tom Windle, Minnesota: Short, but strong start against Western Michigan – 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 3 FO, 8 GB

Second to Fifth Rounders:

  • Jonathan Gray, Oklahoma: Just decent command against Texas A&M-CC – 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K (63 of 102 P for strikes). Favorable reports on his stuff
  • Buck Farmer, Georgia Tech: The senior posted another solid line, this time against St. John’s – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
  • Braden Shipley, Nevada: Dominated a weak N. Illinois squad – 8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 10 K, 5 FO, 9 GB
  • Andrew Pierce, Southern Miss: Continued strong start of the season against Eastern Illinois to the tune of 7.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K with a stellar 13 GB against 3 FO.
  • Ricky Knapp, Florida Gulf Coast: Not to shabby against Florida: 9 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 9 FO, 13 GB. An interesting high GB pitcher to keep an eye on come June.
